Underneath/Overlooked
An exhibition inspired by the art of terrazzo

In the 1950s, Italian immigrants Giuseppe and Anna Scolaro established the Universal Tile Factory in Walyalup (Fremantle), hand-crafting terrazzo tiles from vibrant pigments and Italian marble.
Underneath/Overlooked invites you to step into their legacy through silk reproductions of the tile patterns, a hands-on pattern-making game, and photos of the homes where these tiles live today.
Discover the craft behind these striking designs in this unique exhibition that celebrates the Scolaro family’s role, like many immigrant families, in shaping our communities and the design history of Western Australia.
